I’m back! March 8, 2009

Filed under: Common — Do Hoang Hai @ 8:55 pm

Hey hi all I’m back after like almost five months of missing from my blog.

There are many things I want to talk about but simply do not know where to start.

During the last five months, many things happened to me, almost all of them are so important to me that I will not forget till I pass over.

First thing goes first. My 18th birthday, of course, was per normal, followed the tradition I set to myself: my birthday is the day for me only and exclusively mine. Being 18 is really a big thing, a great leap of change, from being teenager or even kid to adulthood. Well it turned out to be more alerting than I thought. I went home as planned. It took me for surprise that I was no longer a son of my parents anymore, not in the sense that my parents abandoned me or what, but it was the topics I involved those days. What I heard were divorces, affairs, family problems. I was much scared even. Being adult isn’t an easy thing to cope.

Enough about being old, next topic is love. Well two major events took place. First, I found the person I really loved the most in my life and left me; well this is a long story which I’m not allowed to tell. Second, I learned the way to take care of the person I love, and it worked. I changed and I can change with love. As the person I am, once again, I packed my heart and left, for some reasons which make another story, and as normal, I’m not keen on telling story. However, rest assured! I learned a lot from these five months when things happened beyond my imagination. I’m still pretty amazed by how things could happen that way.

Some other additional news. I went club: I’m old enough already! JC2 life is stressful but still manageable. I’m done with Project Work and my H3 NRP. I dropped Economics from H2 to H1, quite recently. I moved to the Oldham Hall (Hall supposed to be pronounced as /he:ll/) and started to suffer financial crisis since then. I got a lot new found friends.

That’s all about it for today. I’ll try to post more often.

Buy beeps.

HI all,
It has been almost three months since my last post. Life has been really busy for me, much of it was tiring, the other was lazy. That is why I could not post to my blog.
Still my thank-you to all though who still frequent my blog to see if I had updates on my life. And my apologies too, for not updating often also.

Anyway, I’ve finished my Promotional exams. Went through it quite smoothly, hopefully I’ll get good results. Top 10% if possible. Mty dream of getting top for Maths had gone as I could not finish the paper, left out an easy question due to my headache on the day of exam. Still I think I’ll get A for Maths. Chem should be an A too. The rest of the subjects are still uncertain. Just hope!

I’ll finish this post here first. More to come very soon!

I’ve just realised I’m going to be 18 really soon July 27, 2008

Filed under: Common — Do Hoang Hai @ 1:03 am

Hi all, it had been a very, very long time since my last post.

I’ve been so busy with school work, really busy.

AEWF had over, smoothly, just about 3 weeks ago. Committee running also almost have results for all. Choir, I did not get into committee but that’s ok, others people can lead also. It is not a must for me to get into committee. Hartono is the president for Batch of 2009 ACJC Choir, and Grace (Yam) is the vice president. Congratulation to both of them, as well as other committee members of Batch of 2009 ACJC Choir. Library committee is not out till next Wednesday (actually it is supposed to be on Tuesday then they changed the date!)

Term results were officially out. And well, to my gratitude, I had ABBA for my four subjects. That was something to be cheerful about.

The download case has not been touched yet, as I suspect, though there was a case to make public apology already! Phew!

My role as a President for the Boarders’ Committee has been doing fine. I had some meeting with Mary on our Boarders’ Dialogues plan, but I kept forgetting to check on the updates the newsletter and food survey.

Looking back, three weeks lasted without so many special things happened. However, I think, for me, it is fine. Life sometimes needs a little push, but sometimes, we slow down to think and improve!

So yah, have a good month ahead people! Keep smiling!

I do not know what I am doing now! July 3, 2008

Filed under: Common — Do Hoang Hai @ 9:47 pm

I am depressed, now but I do not look like so. I just want to pour myself out to someone close to me, to cry on the person’s shoulder. I want it so desperately now.

I’ve gotten back my PCME results, and they really do disappoint me a lot. I must say I had been lazy on studying for Term Exam, mostly because of my attitude towards study was worsened by days. I only took one week to study, and the week was not fully occupied for studying even. I deserved what I had done, though I had EAAC for my PCME but all of them were so badly done, that they were not my best performance at all. I really want to moan over it with some friend but the reality that I passed made them look at me with weird looks. I am disappointed with myself.

Today was a very down day with me. I got my computer busted for downloading and soon I may have to face some consequences of paying fine for it. Unhappy things just come as they, one by one draining me to my core. I admit that I am not a strong person, not strong at all, just that I show up stable. I do cry once in a while when things get so frustrated on me and so do I.

I had Library committee interview today but I think I blew it as I was over-confident and hence my weakness showed up when I was challenged. However, leadership is not something very important to me in Library. I joined and work in Library with my love to help and interest in Library’s work. To guide and rule over people sometimes are very hard, especially for me. I wanted to be Committee member just because I wanted some leadership recognition, which now I do not really matter it already.

Hope that things will go smoothly after this period. I really need to discipline myself.

Two weeks June 22, 2008

Filed under: Common — Do Hoang Hai @ 12:35 am

Dear my friends, thank you a lot for still visiting my blog thought it seems to be so dead recently with my posting frequency of two or three entries per month.

Well just not that I’m lacked of anything to write about, in fact, I have so many, so many that I think if I write them down, all of them, I will bore myself.

Just some notes on how I had been the last two weeks. I was totally fine. My first week after tour was quite a normal style of Choir. Rehearsed twice in the week and then went on to sing for our Thanksgiving service.

Oh, that is a topic for me to talk about. It was indeed a very memorable service for me. Celebrating 20 years of the journey ACJC Choir has embarked on to pursue Choral Excellence, the service was full of people: teachers, conductors of the Choir since the first years; alumnus from various batches with representatives dated back to the 1980s. The songs were performed are carefully selected, and each of them bears a lot of meaning and stories to tell along. “All things bright and beautiful”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, “Pater Noster” (The Lord’s Prayer), “Plenty Good Room”, “Magnificat”, “Shiru l’Adonai”, even “Turning”, all brought to me a lot of meaning. The service will last very long in my memory. Now I’m looking toward to the Silver Anniversary of the Choral Excellence Program, which will be held in five years time.

This week, the last week of the holiday was a normal slacking-around week. I went out to meet up with some people, went to school to have Maths remedial, and GEL lesson too. I met a very interesting person, no, actually two very interesting people this two weeks. One always smiles, happily and innocently, with a really pure heart. The other gave me a whole afternoon filled with laughter and jokes and relaxing moments too. To two of you, always keep up to what you are doing! I always wish you the best.

A side note of my H3. I actually started on the project already. My proposal was fine, just got some parts were a bit ambitious. After going through the proposal with my professor, we came down to just focus on some aspects of the proposal first. My project is now on StepMania 3.9 with human interactions with the game as to control the four arrows up, down, left, right just by their simple movements and also a small study of their energy consumptions for playing a particular song. The emulation is doing fine, but there was a small problem but stating a very challenging task for me to do. It is that I have to re-program the chip that read off the movements’ data so that to trigger the emulation. Sounds easy but actually, it is a real University level, which requires me knowledge even in electronic. Hopefully I can get manage it soon before the official sensors come out that I can use them.

I think it will be it for these two weeks. Hope to see you soon, maybe after my term exam for a reflection.

ACJC Choir Europe Choral Tour 2008 June 5, 2008

Filed under: Common — Do Hoang Hai @ 10:27 pm

Dear all friends, thank you all for visiting my blog even though it had become gradually abandoned (this sounds also too much exaggerated).

My 10-day Choir Tour had been a very fun, enriching, and eye-opening experience for me, and also for all of my chorister friends.

To mention, the very first thing to say must be the opportunities that God has given us to sing and dedicate our voices and songs to Him. Truly God had blessed the Choir so much. From the visa problem which is solved just nicely before the tour, to so many chances for the Choir to perform in various Cathedrals and University Hall in Vienna and Bratislava, also Salzburg. Our confidence went from quite low during the first performance to the point that we all felt quite at ease singing in the church. Adapting to new acoustics is one of many lessons we learnt during the tour. There are still lots of things to say, plenty of lessons to jot down; many of them are taught through painful mistakes and pet-talks. With all of these lessons in mind, we entered the competition hall all smiling confidently. Three Golds diplomas with scores of 100. 98 and 99. Truly God really loves u more than we can imagine.

A bit tired. I’ll go sleep very soon. Good night to all.

A quick post! May 26, 2008

Filed under: Common — Do Hoang Hai @ 7:52 pm

Dear all friends,

Well, it has been again another very long period since my last entry. Today I’ll just sum up some highlighted details of the past weeks.

Firstly, school work. I did quite well for my CA tests. All As for Sciences and Maths. 1 A, 1 B for Econ. The worst of them all is as normal, my most unfavoured subject, GP. Failed my Comprehension (as I normally did in Sec 4) and managed to get it to a pass in Essay. 2 more assignments are to be marked but I do not have much hope in getting high points with them as they were completed in quite a rush (I stayed up to 430 in the morning of that day to finish them!)

Choir still runs very smoothly. Despite of some difficulties of the visa, as a miracle, God allowed all of us, 10 young choristers to join the whole Choir for the Slovakia tour. We are indeed very thankful of God for that fact. It is really true that God will never abandon our prayers and will reply in His most well-planned way for us. And I’m here, writing now, just about 6 hours before the flight to Dubai to transit to Slovakia. We will see wonders there in the cities we are going to visit.

A side note, to all dear friends, I’ve just formatted (or rather upgraded my phone’s operating system without backing up the whole thing.) Thus now I’d lost all of my contacts. So do drop me an SMS saying who you are so that I can save your number back yah!

Love you all.

Another long-time-no-post entry May 13, 2008

Filed under: Common — Do Hoang Hai @ 8:47 pm

Hi to all of my friends.

Well it has been weeks since the last time I posted on my blog. I am really busy with school work and tired because of them also.

Choir is coming to an intensive period of training preparing for tour and concert. Recently or rather just last week, Mr. Fred Sjoberg, a world-class conductor, currently French National Youth Choir’s conductor came to our Choir to have a time of fruitful sharing of experiences and making good music. He is really a fun and youthful person. We really enjoy the rehearsals with him as well as the sectionals too. For the first time, many of our Choristers felt like the rehearsal ended so quickly without our knowing it actually was quite late already. All the du-da things were so fun and enjoyable, also the Boarder Song.

Tour is coming, of course, but we are still quite worrying. 10 of us could not get visa on the first day we went to French embassy as they required so many things that we were not aware of. Mr. Sum, our Choir teacher is trying very hard to get them though. He is even flying to Indonesia tomorrow to Slovak embassy there to do the visa for us. To all friends, please pray for him going to Indonesia with journey mercy and a successful trip that will enlighten our hearts with an assurance for our trip with the Choir.

School is really getting busy. Deadlines are just one after another. This week GP Independent learning assignment of Monday, Maths test on Tuesday, GP package test and Econs essay test on Thursday. Next Tuesday will be eCONNECT of Econs. Really so many things to handle, and since I’m always the type of punctual person, all of the tasks are supposed to be handed in on time for me also. That is just so demanding. Hopefully I can manage my time better so that I do not have to rush so badly.

On a brighter side, the good news so far is that I’ve been getting As for all of my CA tests so far. Econ 14/20, just nice an A, Phys 29/35 also A, Chem was the most successful one with 19.5/20, of course A also. Just finished my Maths CA test today, hopefully another A too.

Another last note on Choir. We had a performance in Shangri-La hotel last Thursday for the ASEAN Regional Forum- Senior Officials Meeting. It was very well-received. Even our teachers complimented us a lot. All thanks go to Mrs. Valerie Wilson, our conductor, as well as our so supporting teachers in charge, Mr. Sum, Mrs. Teow, Mrs. Hong, Mrs. Tay, Laosu and all the alumni who came down to sing and support us too.

That’s it for today. Hopefully I’ll post to you all a lot of pictures in Europe.

When you feel the love surrounds you! April 27, 2008

Filed under: Common — Do Hoang Hai @ 11:37 pm

Well new days had passed.

It had been a week and one day since my last post. Life is well smoothly run.

I just made friend with a very interesting person last Sunday. Then bought ticket to go his concert today. Well it was worth it lol. 10$ is quite fine for a quite enjoyable concert though as normal I felt asleep during some parts of the concert. There were “The Year of The Dragon” and a war song which I cannot remember the name for now, but I really enjoyed them. “Peter and the Wolf” was quite fun with the act of the band’s members.

Oh yah, today I also met Ming Han. Long time no see, man! Happy that you are still doing well.

Choir was still fun as usual but well I had to pay 2$ for Tenors’ fund because we were quite worst on Sat, hix! Hopefully we can improve more in the mean time. Exciting performance ahead at Shangri-La hotel for ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on 8 May. Working very hard toward the tour and concert.

I went for Singapore Science and Engineering Fair and A*START Talent Search award ceremony on Saturday. Well quite amazed by how students in Singapore are much enthusiastic about science research. I see a lot of opportunities that Singapore students can get through these programs. And also I started to wonder when can Vietnam have such competition to nurture budding talents.

Hum I think that’s it for today! Have a nice week ahead people!

Long time no post April 19, 2008

Filed under: Common — Do Hoang Hai @ 11:12 pm

Well hi everyone.

It had been a very very long period I did not post anything on my blog. Simply the reason was due to my so busily packed schedule. Or at least my free time was so little to write as writing really takes up a lot of time.

Well let’s just sum up my activities from erm, the first day of this month. Well not many things happened. School gradually went into its circle of madness: training for Choir, studying, revising for CA and term. Well that’s just mundane if saying so. At least I found my joy in Choir, despite of all the sleepiness and boredom in lecture and disliking feeling for GP, a subject which I developed a pure hatred towards it since the day I was forced to go for GEL (much a waste of time I rather consider).

A happy news, I was selected for the NRP project on Robotics, quite an interesting one which mainly focuses on advancing the technique of motion capturing, comparing to Wii first. I just started to attend the first mass lecture on Data Analysis today (which its test will be a component to decide whether I can take up NRP as a H3 or not). At least it was not very boring as we learnt quite a number of new things on error analysis. The lecture on Research Methodology was rather sleepy and useless.

Tracing back to the pass, well I cannot really remember so most of the things happened, mainly because they were rather insignificant. Choir is still doing fine. Morning practices were quite fine with attendance but well we still have a lot of things to work on as a batch and together with the senior batch.

I skipped one of the track and field heat events, which was long jump but turned up for my 400 which was a rather embarrassing one, I finished last in the 8 runners.

School is still fine, lessons are getting on its way and more and more I felt that I was lacked behind quite a lot. Time for adjusting my studying routine.

I do not really know what to post more already. Hope that I will have time to post soon.

See you all!

A summary April 1, 2008

Filed under: Common — Do Hoang Hai @ 8:11 pm

Hey all, nice to know that a lot of people still keeping an eye on my blog though I have not written there anything since 13rd last month.

Well time really flies. I was kind of very busy those weeks. Firstly and mostly is to prepare for Fun-O-Rama XIX. Let’s now talk about it for a while.

Fun-O-Rama XIX was my first Fun-O-Rama ever, also my first funfair I’ve ever been a part of. A lot of things needed to be done before the day. As I was in charge of the game store, there were fewer tasks for me to finish. For food, we had Food-O-Rama which brought on sale variety of foods from hot-dog to chicken wing as main course or chocolate fondue or fruit bowl or yogurt popsicle. Game was Slip-up which was basically picking up marbles by chopsticks. The preparation mostly went out for the food as the game was just too simple. Madam Low did a very great thing as she asked for sponsorship of F&N Coca-Cola and the porcelain factory to give us 3000 cans of Coca-Cola Zero and 180 China dinner set plates. The game store’s prizes were entirely based on those cans and plates, even though I went to Daiso to buy some cute items, the kids kept coming back to drain it from me. And sadly enough I forgot to limit them, thus the kids’ gifts ran out like so fast. In the end, even kids have to take plates which obviously they would not want to. The food store ran quite well also.

Another happy note on Fun-O-Rama XIX. I was able to see so many people I have not seen for ages. Madam Toh, Trinh No, Cuong, Ton, Thang, Teik Siang, Gabriel, Joo Yu, Billy. I miss them quite much, just I did not realise that until I saw them. Good friendship will last and be kept in mind. I was quite pitiful that Madam Toh could not stay for long. She was kind of rushing with her family, but I could see she enjoyed herself and glad that she is still happy and cheerful as ever. To all other friends, keep all of your smiles on despite whatever happens. I’ll always be available for you.

What else is left in these three weeks? Uhm I do not think I have. Oh yah, I should include this. I’ve got a new friend, very good friend. A cheerful person I have to say. Keep it up man, you can go through tough times as you did.

I think I’ll stop here because I still have like 5 articles of GP to comment on! That’s a lot of them as I need to submit on Thursday!

Have a nice week ahead.

The week break, so far! March 13, 2008

Filed under: Common — Do Hoang Hai @ 9:44 pm

Hello all of my friends out there.

This term break has been a so-so week, with Choir practice for the last Monday, Tuesday and today (which is a Thursday).

We were introduced (for most of the JC1s) the technique of improvisation. Well, let’s just say of it as a technique first. At first, as we were quite unfamiliar with the way of making sounds immediately and independently on any scales or notes, the sound was much of noises and cracks of voices. First two rehearsals were not much the same as we developed the idea of how improvising should be done. This is thanks to Mr. Wood and Mrs. Maria (I’m sorry but I really have no clue of how her surname could be- it was not spelt on the score!). By the way, Mr. Wood is a friend of ACJC Choir, composed for our Choir almost every a composition, every piece is a brand new experience such as “Turning” for last year and “Gravity and Light” of 2008. Mrs. Maria is a teacher from Finland, she was working with Mrs. Wilson and she is very affectionate to come and have a short session with out on vocalising, of how we should make the sound of the Choir more lively and happy.

Back now to “Gravity and Light” and today’s rehearsal. I have to say, it was a very fruitful one. Everyone seemed to improve a lot, on the improvisation: of the way the noises or sounds or rhythms can blend with each other, just as a response the surrounding; also most of the sections are very clean on their notes pitch-wise. And the song was sung, after about 4 hours more, almost 5 hours of Mrs. Wilson and Mr. Wood working on the score with Choir. And amazingly, I feel very strongly the song was performed quite well. There were not much mistakes, of course there were, here and there, also got some voices cracked (one of which was mine at some parts), but the most successful thing was everyone tried their best to unify with the whole Choir, in improvisation and singing the melody and tune. Combining with the video was much of a nice and brilliant piece, at as lousy and weird as I (and some of other members) felt (the song was of much minor cords- a challenging and strange composition). Bravo to Mr. Wood.

On another note, the Europe Tour was confirmed by the school, we had the tickets to Vienna and now we just need to get one tending agency as our official. Tour also means more practices and more concentrations for us this period of time. Now must now be stressed out by school work. Managing time is an important problem. I must try. I hope to be able to go for the tour. It will surely be an expanding experience for me (does “expand” have a better replacement for this case?).

Oh, another good news is that I was selected by NRP Committee for an interview tomorrow, Friday. Hopefully I can make it for the project. I do not think it really matters I can use it as a H3 subject or not; just having a chance to experience new things is satisfied enough for me already.

Uhm uhm uhm, I think it’ll be it for today. Hear from me soon!
